Letter to Dan Didio

Hi all. So i had these grandiose plans to start this blog and on Wednesdays or Thursdays review the plethora of comics i bought this week. Well I went to my shop (Fat Moose Comics in Whippany, NJ) this week and noticed that I was only getting two books. So instead of having a two sentence post i though I would take this time to write a letter to Dan Didio about something that has been bugging for a while now.

First to the Comics I got this week:

Countdown #whatever the f the new number is: I thought this was a slight step backward. After 3 weeks of fantastic pacing, art and writing i thought this book slowed down considerably. I hope it picks up but i said that for the first 12 weeks of this comic. Grade C+

Batman Annual #26: What a great book. This is the back story of Ra's Al Ghul. He is one of the most demented of the Bat Villains. Unlike the Joker who does evil because it is fun Ra's has always done evil because he felt it was for the greater good. The problem that I had with this book was it was supposed to be the Back story of Ra's but instead it was split between his back story and current time with Talia and Damian. I have no clue when this book takes place though. Was this supposed to be before the batman and Son Story line or after. I can see though how this is going to lead into the huge Cross over (oh my DC doing a crossover No way) about the rebirth of Ra's Al Ghul. The art in this book was great and the story was well written but i don't think it was plotted well. Grade B.

Well Now on to my Plea to Dan (yeah we are on a first name basis). If you are not Dan you can Turn away if you like.

Dan,

For the love of god please help a brother out. If you are going to have a company wide crossover (or for god's sake two at the same time) please bring back the editors box. Now i know you think that I am made of money and I am buying every book in the DCU but to tell you the truth the wife likes to buy things too (i know, I know i need to get a better hold on her). I read Countdown, I read batman, I read Flash, Green lantern, JLA. I pick up on a lot of the things going on but not all. For example I had no clue where the Athenian women's complex came from and if it wasn't from listening to Podcasts (thank you Raging Bullets) i would of had no clue that came from amazon's attack. If you let me know with a little box simply saying *as seen in Amazons Attack #2 (to tell you the truth i have no clue the number because i am not reading this) i might of wanted to pick up that comic to learn more about it. I had no clue who Holly Robinson was. If I wasn't reading the Flash, the funeral would have been way the f out of place.
I am reading a lot of the Showcases and For god's sake there are editors boxes in those that refer to things that happened two pages ago. I've lived my life hard in college and a lot of my memory is shot. A simple inclusion an editors box not only may get me to buy something else but also may jar my memory for something that i have read and simply don't remember. if you could do this i would be much appreciated.

Thank You,

TJ

Opie and Anthony Traveling Virus

Hi all,

The Pictures below are from a comedy show that I wen to on Saturday from PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ. It was a show sponsored by Opie and Anthony and had all of the fan favorite comedians from their show.

I'll start with the tailgate which was amazing. A lot of the people from the FBA fan site met up at the Cheesequake Rest stop on the parkway and caravan over. There were about 50 of us in a line. We all set up tents and chilled. Talk about a spread: Besides everyone having there own tailgate grills, there was also 2 six foot grills set up that cooker some hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken wings. One of the Pests owned a farm so he brought 4 Watermelons and a virtual shit load of Corn.

In the parking lot there were fire eaters, Lots of WOWing (which all OnA fans know what is) and just plain old camaraderie.

Inside the venue they had a village set up. There was a Clown Dunking booth set up, a guy on stilts walking around, a magic show, Jim Norton Signing Books at a booth, Mick Foley from the WWE (and ECW for those of us that prefer to remember him that way) signing and taking pics, and the band Octane performing.

Now to the show:

Opening Up was Rich Vos. For those of you that just know him from the show, I urge you to see him do stand up. He is great.

Nest was the Winner of Car Crash Comedy Husan Husan. He was truly terrible and was booed off the stage. i felt bad for the guy but when you are doing comedy in front of 12000 ravenous OnA fans you really need to bring it.

Robert Kelly was next. he was featured on Tourgasm on HBO for those of you who don't listen to OnA. He was spot on.

Patrice O'Neill was next and he was as offensive as ever. A lot of blue sexual humor coming from him that was fantastic.

Last for the First Grouping was Bob Saget. For those of you that only know Bob from Full House, you really don't know Bob. He is quite possibly one of the bluest comics out there. It is not shocking that he Does this comedy it is more shocking to the people that know him that he was able to pull off "Family TV".

After a break where they had a nice group of "Adult Entertainment" On stage, the last three comics took the stage.

First was Louis C.K. I have seen Him do stand up before but he was funnier then I have ever seen him. One of the highlights was when a group of fans were tossing around a beach ball and He got it on stage, had relations with it and tossed it back stage after telling the group where they can put the beach ball (I'm really trying my hardest to keep this blog clean).

Lewis Black was next and he was back his roots. Bringing up news items and not getting overly political. Fantastic stuff. The highlight for me was when He said that BS Newspaper(which they all are) should have a rule to have one headline that makes everyone laugh so hard that the milk from yesterdays coffee come out there news. His example was from a newspaper that reported "Hippo Eats Dwarf." He said after that he knew he was in for a good day.

And Last but not least was Jim Norton. When a girl tried to interrupt him so that she could throw her panties on stage he berated her so much that only an amazon wouldn't have left in tears. fantastic Stuff.

It was a great show that I could not urge people to check out next time it rolls around.

Also for those of you not listening you really should at least check out OnA. They are on XM 202 as well as 92.3 in New York. They are also syndicated throughout the country.

Here I Go

Well Now I've done it. I've decided to start writing a blog. For someone that is not tech savvy at all this might be very interesting. The Title of my blog refers to my love of comics. As all comic fans know Wednesday is the Holy grail of the week. Tuesdays take so long to get through just so you can make your weekly trek to the comic shop.

For those of you that listen to podcast i am a huge fan of CGS, Comic Book Savant, Geek Brunch among many others (way to many to list). I am on the CGS Boards as gardnerisgod. I am also a huge OnA fan and I am on FBA.com as mrpalmer420.

I am going to use this blog to review comics, books and movies mostly. I will also rant a bunch as I get pissed off at a lot of things.

My movie review for the day is a movie i watched last night, Caligula. Now I put this on my netflix cue for the obvious reasons. Penthouse productions, amoral roman society and NC-17, need i say more gentlemen (and ladies if you are into that sort of thing). What i got surprisingly was a fantastic, well acted movie. I mean all the debauchery was there that you would expect but the caliber of talent in this movie was amazing. I knew that Malcolm McDowell was in it but i was pleasantly surprised by Peter O'Toole (although with a name like that why should I have been) and Academy Award winner Helen Mirren. This told a great story of the roman empire at a very tumultuous time. Please there was Decapitation, Necrophilism, Golden Showers and Sodomy. What more can a guy ask for in a nights entertainment. I would recommend this movie to anyone as long as you have a strong stomach and not that many morals.

This is my first post and hopefully many more will follow.

See ya
