Crossing Midnight Vol 1 TPB

Another Trade Review for today

This book is written by Mike Carey and Pencilled by Jim Fern, Rob Hunter, and Mark Pennington.

The art in this book is very good. It is a little cartoony in places but some of the shit will blow your mind. It takes place in Japan and in so the artist have adopted a slight anime style. I usually hate this but in this it really works. The use of the three artist doesn't hurt the book because I can't tell who is drawing what.

The story starts off a little slow and sit commy but i feel the Carey finds his voice somewhere in the middle of issue 2. It the really picks up and thrust you into the middle of a great Japanese Mythological action tale.

This is about a set of twins one born at 11:59 and the other at 12:01. Before the birth the father makes an offering to a Japanese god. At that time the mother only thought that she was going to have one child. When the birth occurs all are surprised. The children develop powers. The girl cannot be punctured by blades and the boy looks like he can divert them(although they never come out and tell us) In their teens we find out that the offering that the father gave is being interpreted as the Daughter that was born on the wrong side of Midnight. The god on knives comes to take her and she refuses at first. Holy shit this book was only like 115 pages but I think it will take me that long just to describe all the shit that happens here.

Get this book.

Now for a little rant. i get a lot of my books from borders but they are starting to piss me off. They always put the Motherfucking metal strip thing in the middle of my books. sometimes they stick so much that you cannot take them off. i tried in this because they put it right on top of some god damn word balloon. When taking it off as gently as these meathooks could I ripped the page. Now this book was only 9.99 so i am not as angry as i could be but if this ever happened on one of my absolutes of omnibus's i would be screaming. And that would sound weird coming from the stall in the men's room at my work.
